Trying out converting some mixamo animations to have a root bone.
After import, when I check the animations, the character looks convoluted.
For conversion I used both Blender plugin and a separate app. The result is the same.
The character is a mixamo rigged t-pose with skin, imported in a form of skeletal mesh and looks fine.

Following other cases through the community, Blender and Unreal do have a tendency to clash with each other in different scenarios, specially animations.
First approach would be to reset export/import settings in both programs. After that, please follow the method below, it has brought me good results in previous projects:
