Controlling NPC walking height on uneven terrain

Newbie question. I’m trying to make my first film. I have an environment with uneven terrain and an animated horse actor. If I just use the sequencer to move the horse from one location to another it doesn’t move on the z axis as the ground level changes so it’s feet disappear into the ground. Is there a way to control a character in the x-y axis but have the height controlled by the ground level?

An AI controller with a MoveTo or similar would be the only way to have it respect the terrain.

Normally with sequencer or whatever simulations are off, which is why you can walk into the landscape.
