Controller input!!! Need help i'm going crazy

Hi guys i’m trying to set up the in game pause menu and it should work both with mouse click and gamepad. The question is, when i hit start and set game paused, should i switch my player controller? Should menu have its own controller or am I doing something wrong? Where should be managed these input for the menu? Thank you guysss

No, keep the same controller, because it’s the same player.

But when you load menus, you have to switch input methods:
