Control Rig resets to original pose after adjusting and compiling

I followed a tutorial video where I duplicated an existing Control Rig. Around the 8-minute mark, I applied a new skeletal mesh, selected the root, and updated it as shown.

After applying it, the Control Rig’s initial pose looked strange (as shown in the first image). So, I moved the legs to adjust the pose and then compiled the Control Rig.

However, after compiling, it reverted back to the initial strange pose (as shown in the first image).

What could be the cause of this issue?
