Control point confusion

This sounds ridiculous but control points just aren’t working. I load my pictures and align. It creates 2 components. I would like to merge them so I pick control points in images from one and match them up with points from the other, so now I have several CPs with multiple images in each. All of the images have less than 1.0 px. I click Align again and it creates 2 new components that are exactly the same as the previous 2. No change whatsoever! I’ve tried it several times with different images and different points and always get the same result. Another thought. I read in the new features from a couple months ago that we can now choose control points in the 3D view. I tried that and it doesn’t really seem to do anything. I haven’t seen any instruction on how you’re supposed to use that feature.

Dear user,
using control points can merge components but that does not mean it does magic. If your subject has very little features or you photos simply have a bad overlap the model will not connect. Regarding the control points in 3D, go to Alignment tab and enable the Control point button. Then in the 3D view point your cursor on a model and you will see the cursor change. Now you can just click anywhere on the model and suggestions for images will be added to the control point. I still would recommend doing the 2D view assigning but this provides users with more of a quick access.

I never suggested it was magic. I just wanted to know the correct method of doing it. What I eventually figured out in the 3D view worked. I don’t know if it’s correct but it worked.  I enabled control points clicked Crreate in the 1Ds panel. Then moved the mouse around the point cloud. When I could see a lot of photos connected to a spot I clicked to place it.  Then over in the Control Points list the connected images would appear with green + box buttons next to them. I click all of the buttons, then repeat this process until I have 7 or 8 CPs for each component. I hit Align again and I can see on of the components now has more images in it. Repeat the whole process a few times and finally I have one component with almost all of the images.

That is exactly how it should be used, good job Sir.
