Content Examples 5.2–5.6 (at least) Niagara Particles Sounds while in Niagara Editor; How to mute?

Apologies in advanced if this is a basic question/fix. I am a beginner to Niagara system and using the Content Example projects to help me learn.

When I open the particles systems from the Niagara_Particles map in the Niagara Editor they are making a noise or noises. I can’t for the life of me figure out where it is coming from and how to mute it. The sound goes on a loop and the loop stutters when I interact with the Editor. How do I mute this? Where is it coming from? It is only on these examples. Seems to apply to versions of Content Examples project from at least 5.2–5.6 on Windows or macOS.

The solution to this will probably help me learn. Does not apply to other Particles whether ones I create myself or from another map.

Hello there @jamesoloughlin!

No worries, Niagara is a quite complex system, even getting a graps of the basics is quite taxing. The sounds you are hearing are most likely tied to a sound emitter inside the system. Since you are working with a content example, that node is included there to demonstrate the system’s features, like making a noisy effect.

To disable it, simply open the system in Niagara editor, go to the overview panel, and among the emitter modules, there should be one with “Sound” on it’s name. Once located, click the eye icon next to it, and that should disable the module. You can also change it’s volume level from here, if you just want to make it quieter.

Now, if you simply wish to not hear the sounds while you work on the emitters, but need it for testing later on, there’s always the option to mute the sound on the editor itself, using the viewport controls:

You are a lifesaver, it was driving me nuts :joy: + learned something new. Changing the Level Editor Volume in the Setting as screenshotted did the trick. Thank you so much!
