There is few things that I want to address here. I am someone who uses double content browser view, akin to total commander[1]
As you can notice, currently there is not a whole lot of assets that I can reasonably display on such view. The thumbnails are either too big or too small (using tiny or small thumbnail size, the higher settings are pretty much unusable, since only a single asset can fit in the view (not even fully)[2],[3]. However, in the “tiny” setting, the names of the assets are invisible [4]. That makes the only possible workable solution the “small” setting. But because the nameplate of the asset entry is so big, but cannot wrap, the assets cannot be immediately distinguished, if it has a long name with a prefix [5]. If, let’s say, you have a folder full of blueprints, all named with “BP_AssetName_Variant” convention, content browser will show only “BP_AssetName…”, meaning there is no quick way to navigate to the variant needed. I mean the nameplate for the assets is comprised of half the empty space. I assume that was to incorporate text autowrap, that never came to be, because why waste gui space this much? The other issue is that I can only fit 8 assets, not even fully, in view at a time [6]
What I propose is:
- Tweak the settings from {too small, barely workable, too big, too huge, too massive} to something that does better job of listing assets and fitting them in the view. Perhaps more granular control over the size of the elements.
- Auto-wrap text to the empty space below the text, since there is plenty of it to hold another row or two of text. Also fix the “tiny” setting to display name, instead of hiding it.
- Add an option of minimizing (compacting) the paddings between assets. There is a lot of space wasted to padding, preventing from fitting more assets in the view.
