I am encountering constant high CPU and RAM usage from the epic games launcher.
Its ram usage seems to hover around 400 megs, which is perhaps a little high for a simple launcher that does nothing but update programs and present an ‘app store’? This is RAM i could use for some other function such as development of my games.
The bigger issue though is the CPU usage. It frequently uses 16-20% CPU constantly, which detracts from my ability to compile. Restarting the program reduces the CPU for a little while, then it jumps back up again.
I am using an AMD FX-6300 six-core CPU, 16GB RAM, Radeon R9 270X graphics and epic games launcher version 2.5.0-3693255+++Depot+UE4+LauncherLive.
Looking in the launcher log, i see these messages occuring whenever the CPU spikes:

Yes i could close it, various operations reload it though, such as loading a project in the editor. I wouldnt mind leaving it open if it didn’t constantly eat CPU
Thanks for the feedback, we are working on general improvements to memory and CPU usage. Your usage does seem high however, the launcher is designed to go into a low performance mode when not focused. This means that when the window is not being used it should use vastly less processing power. Although there should still be rendering optimizations running it is possible that a system unable to connected to one of our services could be spamming your system causing higher then intended cpu usage.
It is worth noting that a download will still cause higher cpu usage as we don’t want to slow down your download simply because we are not focused.
Could you zip up your logs folder and attach them to this post. That might give us a better idea of the problem.
Thanks.
p.s. We do not recommend replacing the launcher executable. The Unreal Engine is set to have tighter integration with the launcher in the future.
We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you’re still experiencing this issue, please try the suggestion that Barnabas mentioned above. Then post back here with the requested info.
