Considering Unity3D

as a beginner trying both, i do find unreal so much easier to use, and more inviting, but on the topic of bad ideas on youtube videos, i have to agree, when i was trying to set up a stamina and health regen system, the dumb ■■■ in the video i found was running it off an event tick… then i figured out how to use a timer to keep adding more health and stamina until CurrentHealth >= MaxHealth to break and invalidate the timer without using any event ticks at all, and im not even sure thats the best way to do it, but i do believe its better than using event ticks

anyway… im sticking with unreal and i am going to stop working on a trial/test/learning project and actually begin focusing on something real with what ive learned… i have an idea of what i want to make, i’ll do all the coding and gameplay mechanics first, focus on character design and landscaping later

if a game looks bad in Unity, its because the team doesn’t have a clue, you can make great looking graphics in Unity comparable to Unreal but takes more work and experience for that side of things…Many people do not have a clue I see Unreal games that are bad, and Unreal looks good out of teh box and people screw it up…some how…blows my mind…but Unity can have good looking games…Check out the new game D r o n e coming …great looking graphics… as well. So just takes more experience, Unity also has new lighting, which will help change that as well. I like Unreal alot but I also like Unity for different reasons…

**+1 **for that part, good mentality, I like that.

this is true… i played a game called the isle where the devs use poorly made models and the animations are atrocious… it would seem to be basic key frame animations but they did not mirror the left and right side as they alternate for walking so you can see for example the left leg extending further out to the left than the right… and the water textures just look like crap

on the united side two games ive played are the forest, and rust, both of which actually look pretty good… i think with unity having a much better render pipeline tailored towards PC/console gaming, its going to make a lot of unity games look even better
