Confusion about point cloud and textured scene

When I click “Start”, I have a (in my opinion) textured model in the end.

At least it looks relatively realistic. It has some holes here and there, but it doesn’t look like vertex colors to me.

When I then try to export a snapshot, RC tells me that the scene is too big (31 mio. tris) and that it will display a point cloud unless I create a clipping region.

Huh?

When I then create a clipping region and click “Texture”, it renders for around 5 hours while the “Start” procedure where everything is done automatically only took 2 hours.

Why is the scene rendered textured after pressing “Start”, but when I try to export a snapshot, it does NOT work?

As one can see, I’m completely irritated.

Can anybody shed some light on this?

Thank you.

And the textured version looks totally blurred / smoothed.

This can’t be right. :frowning:

Bohooo, I don’t find the “Clipping Region” button anymore. :frowning:

This can’t be true.

Ok, I got it, NOTHING needs to be selected for the “Clipping Box” button to become visible again.

So one needs to click something in an empty space in the scene view so that neither “Images”, nor “Component” is selected on the left side.

It’s actually the point cloud that looks so much sharper.

Is there anything I can do to create sharper textures from the seemingly nice point cloud?

Hi alice,

phew, this is quite a big question…

The easy bit first: you can see and change what RC does when hitting the start button in the Application Settings.

Other than that, it can be many things that lead to what you describe.

When you see the “blurred” model, which Scene Render Mode is activated - Solid or Sweet?

Because to me it does look like vertex colors rather than texture. It might be that you don’t have enough memory to be able to display the textured version…
