Compiling Shaders Very Slow

Hello, I’m wondering if this is common or not. Basically whenever I save a material after making changes it compiles shaders which can sometimes take several minutes on what I don’t believe are particularly complex materials or major changes. I have a pretty decent laptop with a GTX 1060 graphics card, 16gb ram and i7 processor. My previous laptop was also quite slow which is part of the reason I upgraded but if anything this one seems even slower, certainly no better.
