compiling shader for every single step taken in material editor for landscapes

Hello,
this has been asked a few times as I have been googling a lot. (although the answer hub is down a lot) Stil, I cannot find a good answer to this problem, the most solutions are outdated.
So here is the problem:
My material is compiling for about 2000 shaders for one single landscape. It is a dense landscape I must say, also it takes really some minutes to continue working on the shader and see some results.
Is this expected behavior and is my computer just not fast enough?
It is almost as worse as just rendering a frame in Maya. :wink:

On the background: why is unreal compiling tons of shaders for a landscape anyways??
