Community Tutorial: Overlay Material Effects

Hello Everyone, In the video I will show you how to use the new translucent overlay material added in Unreal Engine 5.1 Update to create various effect such as, Fresnel Effect, Force Shield Effect, Fire Effect, Water Effect, Mesh Freezing or Effect, Shell based outline, Ghost effect, Custom Depth based outlines.

What a amazing video. I’m trying to follow, but you jump straight to the first effect, without actually explaining how to “overlay a material” (not the blue print construction of the material) but actually: How to layer a material? (in 46:59) you create an instance, and apply it to the mannequin’s material (thus making a material over another mesh material). Could you please elaborate in that part? is it a secondary (transparent mesh)? or is it the same mesh that receives the outline? -if so, why do we still see the mannequin’s PBR texture?
