Part 1 of a five-part series on Blueprint communication in Unreal Engine 5.
Getting two Blueprints to talk to each other is one of the first real walls new Unreal developers hit. This opening tutorial explains what Blueprint communication actually is, why an Actor cannot simply reach into another Actor and change it, and how to make the simplest form of communication work using the Level Blueprint.
We build the example step by step from an empty level, so you can follow along with no prior Blueprint experience. By the end you will understand what a reference is, why it is the foundation of every communication method that follows, and how to verify your setup is working.
This is the groundwork for the rest of the series, which covers direct Actor-to-Actor communication, exposed Actor references, box collision triggers, and Blueprint Interfaces.
