Combining different types of camera in one scan?

Is it possible to use different cameras in one project? For example set of photos by drone camera (GoPro or Phantom camera) and set of ground shots by Sony cam?

Hi Yegor

Yes it is not a problem to get them together, but I recommend you to carefully plan the capturing (good coverage) so you do not need to use too many control points.

Can you explain what you mean “control point”?

There are 3 types of control points:
Tie Point is used to tie images together with no coordinates in order to align them more precisely and correctly.
Ground Control uses GPS coordinates.
Ground Test is used for testing ground control points and error measuring.

I also recommend you to search the forum, as this topic has been solved a lot of times. For example: Faster workflow for adding ground control points

I’ve done a project using GoPro, Inspire drone cameras and Canon 1DS III for ground shots. If you have a big difference in image sizes you might want to downsample the ground shots during alignment, although I didn’t have too many problems. The drone pilot took plenty of oblique shots down low so alignments was generally pretty good. I added control points to align some of the components but probably should have tried an alignment pass that was just aligning components. Tried this with a different project and it worked well.
