Coloring stuck often since update

Since I am on 1.0.3.10393, about half my projects get “stuck” on colorization: the progress bar goes to about half way, then nothing happens for hours. I can’t abort either: nothing happens. I need to kill the entire RC process int he task manager.

GPU drivers are up to date.

I should clarify: When I click the abort button, I get a pop-up that asks if I am sure. When I click yes, the usual “aborting the process” shows, and things get stuck there.

Hello, what does your project and texturing, unwrap settings look like? How many pictures are there? How big in terms of scale is the mesh?

These are fairly modest projects:

typically between 100 and 400 images, meshes are ca. 1 to 4 million polys.

Coloring method is multi-band, style is visibility-based, downscale before coloring 2, use legacy unwrap yes.

texturing is never an issue, that doesn’t crash or get stuck!

Please try these steps separately and report back whether they helped, thanks to that we can find out what is causing this and test it on our side.
Turn off use legacy unwrap and run coloring again.

switch visibility based to photo consistency based and try coloring again.

By the way, what were your unwrap settings? Count of textures resolution and the texel size?

I tried altering settings, not no avail.

Could you please post a screenshot of your color and texture settings and your viewport showing both model and cameras and the 1Ds window with models and components? The texture settings are located on the right side of the big texture button. I have just tried using the Colorize and everything worked just fine.

here you go!

I have many of these projects, all exactly the same type, using the same camera etc., that work fine. And many that give issues.

Okay, I see everything looks fine. Can you please try to simplify this model with preserve parts set to false so it turns out as a singleton and run Clean model before coloring? There could be something wrong with the topology on top of which the colorize is being applied to its vertices.

did that. Coloring again stuck, the progress bar stands right under the left edge of the second o in Coloring. This is the same place in ALL failed projects.

Alright then I guess we will have to take a closer look at it. Please try to upload your whole dataset (rc project with its folders and all of the images) to a cloud or anything else and send it to support@capturingreality.com with a clear description of what is going on. We will test the project here and hopefully will find a solution.

Will do, thank you!

Actually, this data luckily is an exception: I can share it for once. My usual stuff is secret…

Any updates on when there will be a bugfix?

Ca. 20% of my projects can’t be colored (I tried very many different settings), and my customers are getting impatient! I am now forced to revert to other software and run several dozen projects anew.

I second this problem. I try coloring a pointcloud for days. Every time I start the process it reaches around 50% after 30 min and remains stuck afterwards. RC uses 30% CPU no GPU. I tried to reduce vertices from 70M to 10M; Clean Model and various settings in coloring to no effect. I am also not able to stop the process other than killing RC.

Hello,

are you making any progress on this? It’s a MAJOR drawback that on all three computers I use RC reliably fails for 33% of projects :frowning:

Hello malisson, we are working on all of the bugs and try to fix them asap, your one is very hard to be specific about as it can be caused by many different things. I would recommend to wait until the big release coming soon where there will be lots of fixes. Also note that the more polygons your model has the harder it is to color as it grows on resolution. I am very sorry for you experiencing these problems honestly. If you still experience such issues, you could try using texturing instead if your clients don’t mind. Also, you can try to switch the coloring style in settings to photo consistency based instead of visibility based.

Thank you! I hope this can get fixed soon, even a partial fix would help.

Changing the coloring style helps only rarely, and sometimes a texture can’t be used.

Hello, is the problem solved or? recently the same situation happen to me when I do texturing, and even some trials with coloring and even meshing get to the same situation.  When the newer version will be available to fix the problems?

Dear Jorg, the release will be huge so it is hard to even tell, lots of things affect the others without even having to directly be the case. I hope this get’s out of the way. I could guarantee if it was anything reproducible, but this rather is something that happens out of nowhere to few people sometimes and not really over and over again under same steps.

I’m having the same problem as well. Changing the texturing style to Photo-consistency based fixed it for me, though
