[Coffee Jam] Dev Coffee Boy

Another jam, another learning curve processed. My first jam with 10 team size. For most this jam was first “jam experience”. Hope to write blog post about dev process…Some takeaways:

  • It was our first 10 people jam and maybe last: because of content creative work was left behind. Jams with 2-5 people improve creativity, prototyping and crazy ideas. We haven’t had time for prototyping ideas because of content / production mind,
  • Make sure your game will have enough content to make everyone busy. Keep in mind this assumption doesn’t help with creativity…for us this was deal breaker,
  • Don’t invest to much time to create systems. Prototype ideas as fast as you can - game you are creating can and will change during jam. We started with systems and content because we were afraid about deadline and our team size… This game content wise is really big for jam,
  • Make sure everyone know what they are doing: create mockups, game pillars, blurb etc - basically everything you are doing in “normal game production” - having 10 people increase communications problems. We started with systems/content and it was really hard to make the game consistent over time: 2 days before deadline (this was one week jam) we had consistent vision - basically it was to late,

Next time we will split in 2-3 teams =]
