Hi guys, I’m having trouble with chaos cloth. I have this model(second pic) and I gave it chaos cloth. When I start the simulation and move it to see how it works, for some reason I don’t know why, its inner surface comes over its outer surface as you can see in the first picture. I want to know why it’s like this. Is it because of its polygons?? Because I try it on another model this issue doesn’t happen.
This is almost always because the garment mesh has real thickness, i.e. separate inner and outer layers of polygons, and both layers are being simulated as independent cloth. Chaos Cloth doesn’t know they belong together, so as soon as they move the inner layer drifts through the outer one. Your other model probably was a single-sided sheet, which is why it works there.
A few ways to fix it:
1. Best option: in your DCC, make a single-layer (no thickness) proxy of the garment, simulate only that in the Cloth Asset / Clothing Data, and let the thick render mesh follow it through the proxy deformer (in the Cloth Asset editor or the Skeletal Mesh clothing section, use the simulation mesh vs render mesh setup).
2. Quick hack: in the cloth paint tool, paint the Max Distance of the inner layer vertices to 0 so they are skinned, and only let the outer layer simulate. This works for loose clothes, less for things that fold a lot.
3. If both layers must simulate, enable Self Collisions in the cloth config and increase Self Collision Thickness, but this is more expensive and still not fully reliable for thick meshes.
Also make sure the backface material is set to two-sided if you go with a single-sided sim mesh, otherwise the inside will look invisible.

thank you so much
