Cloth simulation for characters in separate fbx

Hello, I’m new at unreal and I’m running into a problem. The character I’m trying to create is wearing a poncho that I need to add cloth sim to. The poncho is currently in a separate fbx file and I figured out how to add the cloth sim, but I don’t know how to make it interact with my character or how to add the skeletal mesh of the poncho onto the skeletal mesh of the character. Do I need to combine them into one file or is it possible to attach them in unreal?

The poncho and character can be separate meshes. Simply make sure both the character and poncho are both Skeletal meshes. Open the poncho and paint in the cloth where it should be added. Simply then add the poncho as a component on the character blueprint. Attach the poncho to a bone of the character so it moves with the character as it animates.
