Clarification on MetaHuman & UE5 Licensing for Non-Commercial, Location-Based Gallery Installation

Hi everyone,

I’m seeking clarification on the correct licensing category for a project using UE5 + MetaHuman.

My studio is developing a non-commercial, location-based interactive installation for a public cultural gallery in Indonesia. The installation will run on a local PC inside the gallery, free to the public, and will not be sold, distributed, or monetized in any form.

Here is our usage scenario:

  • We use MetaHuman Creator to generate characters.

  • These characters are used only inside a packaged UE5 project.

  • We do not distribute the MetaHuman Creator tool, source assets, or any raw MetaHuman files to the client.

  • Only the final packaged build is delivered.

  • The installation is displayed only at a physical location, not as a downloadable product.

Based on the UE EULA, especially:

  • UE EULA §4(a)(iii)(C) — royalty-free when a product is “used, displayed, and performed solely at physical locations under your control or your authorized distributors.”

  • Royalty Addendum §1(e) — no royalties for products used only at a physical location.

  • ECLA — MetaHuman assets may be redistributed only when incorporated into a packaged project (not raw assets).

…it seems that this project falls under standard royalty-free, location-based usage with no additional MetaHuman license required.

Before we finalize internal compliance documents, could someone from Epic or the licensing/moderator team please confirm whether:

  1. This type of on-site gallery installation is fully covered under the standard UE5 + MetaHuman EULA.

  2. There are any additional steps we should take when delivering a packaged project containing MetaHumans for on-site use only.

  3. No special permissions are required as long as we are not redistributing the Creator tool or raw assets.

We attempted to contact Epic Licensing via the official form but have not received a response yet, so we are posting here for guidance.
