Civil 3D Models into UE, How do you import?

Hi Folks,

I work with AutoDesk Civil 3D in my job. I’m working in the UK, creating ponds and roads around a site in Morocco.

I’m looking for help to explain how to export my models from Civil 3D and then import into UE and keep the models geolocation so that anychanges can be updated.

My aim is to learn to create a UE model that people can then walk around to see the site design either by PC or using a PC and VR headset.

For my existing ground surface I have some raster .tiff files / heightmaps and have seen the Landscaping plugin that can drop GeoTiff’s straight in.

Kind Regards

Conan

Hi Conan,

I’m on the same way of seeking opportunities to create visualisation of construction site from Civil 3d.

I also design and modelling local Roads and Interchanges. Here are some mothods I found to import Civil 3D objects to UE5:

  1. Import Civil 3D objects to Navisworks
  2. Export objects from Navisworks using Unreal Datasmith plugin Datasmith Exporter Plugins - Unreal Engine with merge option “0” and origin coordinates “0”.
  3. Import made file to UE5 through datasmith. Objects import with the same Coordinate System as in Civil 3D.

I also have seen Landscape plugin, but have some issues with creating landscpae, using Civil 3D Surface. I can export Geotiff Surface from Civil 3D through “Export DEM” → choose Geotiff format. But the Surface doesn’t insert into plugin due to Coordination System I use even if I convert my local CS to world CS.
