[CitizenGuy] Legal: Help Us Licence a Specific Song

Hello,

We are looking for someone who could help us licence/clear the rights of a not very well known song (a cover) from a very well known US (deceased) singer we want for our game intro cinematic.

Yet we would like to acquire the right to use the original song theme (from another famous deceased US singer) to be the main theme of our music content.

We have no experience in music rights for game, especially for US songs (we are in Europe), so any help will be appreciated.

ps: "Citizen " is a cyberpunk/retro-sci-fi game project TBA with the same basis as ADR1FT (taking place in a low orbit space station but with a completely different design and storyline as well as level of implementation).

Thanks,
.

[CitizenGuy] Native English Dialog Writer / Community Manager

Hello,

We are looking for a native us/english writer who could help us write english dialogs (with a good knowledge of sci-fi phraseology), and who could be interested to also act as our community manager at some point.

French knowledge would be a plus.

ps: "Citizen " is a cyberpunk/retro-sci-fi game project TBA with the same basis as ADR1FT (taking place in a low orbit space station but with a completely different design and storyline as well as level of implementation).

Thanks,
.

You have to contact the record label behind this artist and ask them to give you the permission to use that specific song. There will be a service of some sort out there that does that for game developers or film makers, I don’t have anything in mind at the moment but Google can do the job.

Well, the label does not exist anymore.

Yet I’d prefer to have someone with experience for that kind of deals. Rights holders may not be interested in ‘Indie’ projects so perhaps someone with strong persuasion/negotiation/native english/legal skills can make a difference.

We really would like to be able to use ‘that’ song.

You’ve been pm’d.

Wow!

Except for two things:

  1. I can’t write.
  2. I don’t speak French.

I would have been perfect for this! :stuck_out_tongue:

@naq
Sorry I missed the notification. Answered.

How would you have been perfect for this if you can’t write ? )

Sorry, I was just being facetious.

I had just thought it interesting that under other circumstances I might have qualified for your position.

I actually am a professional writer – in that I get paid for my books (dime store novel sort of thing) – and I did study French and Spanish for four years to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages at our local state university.

Years ago I could write in Spanish at an acceptable level and could manage to write papers in French, but was never fluent in either and by now have forgotten nearly all that I had acquired.

I was an avid reader of science fiction for decades and have a fairly extensive knowledge of English sci-fi terminology.

Unfortunately, my own work, both writing and programming, monopolizes my free time.

Hmm, if I understand you correctly, the fact you can’t write but nonetheless still posted a message here might mean you expect me to make you an offer you can’t refuse ? : )
Well, perhaps when we release more details about our project you may reconsider how you spend your free time ; )

hint: our game will have a TV series type of storytelling, with seasons and episodes, this will allow us to build the game as it goes, episode by episode, to maximize the efficiency of the small resources we have. This will be a kind of experiment of course but… who knows.

Cheers,
.

As I gave a hint about our project in another thread I’ll copy it here too:
Our game will have a TV series type of storytelling, with seasons and episodes, this will allow us to build the game as it goes, episode by episode, to maximize the efficiency of the small resources we have. This will be a kind of experiment of course but… who knows.

This is why it is so important to us to be able to licence ‘that’ song because it will become the main song title/intro for each ‘episode’.

another hint: We are talking about a Mr James Brown song here, but a very old one and (I believe) not a very well known, I won’t give the title publicly for now.

Any help on this would be really appreciated, even if it is to give us a contact of someone you know who is used to deal with this sort of things in the USA and might be interested to help.

Cheers,
.

Non, pas du tout.
Je faisais une blague. ( I had to look up that verb congugation.)

My point was that I can write well (in English) and make money at it. Search for Rhynedahll on Amazon. My books don’t make anyone’s Best Seller lists and are admittedly nothing special, but I have sold 57,000 of them. I even have a very short sci-fi short in French.

No problem, I understand, I was just trying
