Chunky/blotchy landscape shading, banding, artifacts with Gaea issue

Just for context I’m using the VR starter template, but otherwise I’m just importing a 4k 16-bit PNG from Gaea but it looks awful. I tried a bunch of other export/import settings, and other heightmaps from Google but nothing looks decent, I feel like I’m missing something fundamental, any advice?

From my understanding the landscape components are effectively a fixed size, so you can’t have smaller but more dense landscape geo?

have you found a way to fix it i got this issue since im exporting landscapes with gaea as soon as i found something ill let you know

To make Landscape more “dense” you would use a smaller XY Scale value.
The default is 100 which is 1 meter per vertex.
However, you normally don’t want to use lower values because then the number of triangles pushed in the drawcalls increases which has a performance hit.

Looking at your screenshot of the dunes, it looks like you are using a really low detail heightmap.
It looks like a basic Voronoi noise with no detail mixed in, so it is going to look really low resolution and plain.
This looks like an issue with simply creating low poly image quality in Gaea.

You may also wish to use some of the sand materials from Quixel as they will greatly increase the realism of the dunes.
