Chinatown Environment Project

Hello, Im going to start a new project this time being an environment instead of a diorama, the environment in question is gonna be a Chinatown inspired place, here are the assets I’m gonna create for it including the modular assets that will help me make the buildings around. Also I improved my blocking adding more detail to it and the assets I got in mind for the moment.

Week 2
This week I made some changes to the blocking, making it that you cant see the void and have some buildings around, creating a better sense that you are in a environment






Also I made the modular assets, giving them a first texture pass

Week 3
This week I started by finalizing the blocking scene, making it that the perimeter is more integrated into the scene and we cannot see the void now.





Then I added some bevels and more details to some of the modular assets, then I modeled the main road and applied a texture to it



Then I decided to model some more store entrances and building walls for the modular system.






With all of them modeled, I began putting them into the scene and added this bookmarks aswell









So finally this was the work of the week, here in the template we can see a summary of all the assets with their respective wireframe and references

Week 4
This week I changed the blocking all around the scene and replace it with actual assets of the buildings that go around the main area of the environment.


With the surroundings now changed to the final assets, I proceeded with the first lighting pass based on various references of Chinatown in the night and sunset.

And these are the results for the moment in the environment:








As it can be seen in some pictures of the bookmarks, I also started modeling the lanterns this week and will proceed with the texturizing this week.

This week I started finishing the textures of the lantern:



With this I also added them completely to my scene and adjusted a little bit of the lighting regarding them.
Then I continued with adding some new geometry to my modular assets so they have more vertices for the vertex painting technique used:

I also started modeling the Temple that is located at the end of the main street, this is a progress and its unfinished, I will continue with the model and textures next week:

Just wanted to hop in and send some encouragement. This looks marvelous so far. Especially the street hanging lights! It looks so dreamy :smiley: Can’t wait wait to see the final product!

Week 6:
This week I modeled and textured two more assets, this time being the lightpost and the bench:



Also I made progress on the temple’s roof, almost finishing it to apply textures in the future:

With these new assets I modified once again the scene adjusting it to add the new assets and at the same time giving it another pass of ilumination mainly regarding the new lightposts:

Week 7:
This week I modeled and texturized the little roof covers of the benches:



Also I finished the model and I applied textures as well to the Temple:

With these new finished assets I placed them respectively on the scene, heres how its looking:

Week 8:
This week firstly I completely modeled and texturized a new base for the benches, so they dont look tilted in the uneven street:


Then I continued with the base for the Temple that I have previously finished:

Finally for this week, I started with a new hero asset to be finished in this next two weeks, the asset is a food cart and I finished the blocking this week:

In parallel, I was also starting to model the Main Gate:
