I decided to move my previous topic to actual thread. Here i’m going to show you all my progress with new scene.
I’ll update this post every time i’ll get some good results to see your feedback
**What is this scene? **
I had been at place in Kazakhstan called Charyn Canyon (where also been shoot first episode of Marco Polo series by Netflix) last month and i thought it might be cool to recrete this location using phogrammetry and modular assets workflow.
Now i’m preparing assets to build a scene inspired by this canyon and release it as asset pack on the Unreal Marketplace when it’s done.
If this is modular, then each e.g. cliff module should snap and match perfectly and seamless to others. From the pics i doubt this is the case. Can you show some examples of modularity?
Hey guys! Finally big update here! I met many petfall in my work, so i had been fixing it that months. But it’s finally done! Now i’m building demo scene. More screenshots really soon!
Main improvements for today:
Terrain material has been upgraded up to 8 layers, with procedural workflow, including pattern blending with mud/puddles! Also “extra cliffs” been removed as a mesh and now added as a terrain layer with displacement!
I did a great diversity of local grass, including endemic ones! This means that you definitely will not find a similar grass in the net
So, finally first shot of the scene! I’ll continue experiment with lighting and add more details, such as grass/rocks. But general placement of cliffs is already here!
Hi it looks alright, but the scene would benefit from some smaller/intermdiate scale rocks at the base of the cliffs. Also, the foliage and grass is too homogeneously distributed, it would be better and more natural if it was clumped and din’t orient itself to match the slope angle.
Overall the rock look a bit waxy, and the terrain seems to be quite unrealistically distributed seeing as it’s mainly sand, try reducing the angle a bit and working a bit on the transition from sand to rock, perhaps a scree layer would help.
It’s nice start, I hope to see it developed further
Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, most of your critique is not fits for the scene, just because in real world that place looks pretty same as here (perhaps, just more detalisation on the terrain). This is sandy canyon and everything here (except grass, of course) is made of sand, that is the reason why rocks looks waxy (but also, maybe it’s too strong roughness, i’ll check it). About scene in general - there is no rocks in the base of cliffs and also cliffs is located exactly so high. Here is one of my references.
