Character reaction lags on materials

When my character is running on the default checkerboard pattern, it does fine. When I have a texture / material on the landscape, it takes a second for it to stop running or to turn. How do I correct this?

Hello Dbrown,

The only thing that I can think of is that there is a Physical Material applied.

This could either be set in the material, or on the actors in-world.

Hope that helps!

I agree with Astrotronic, but you haven’t given us many details. What re your system specs? Also, does this occur on a brand new map and landscape?

This is all that I have in my scene. A basic landscape material from Megascans, in one area and a building from the city sample demo. The problem only happened while the character was running on the landscape material and not the checkerboard pattern. It seemed to go away when I restarted my computer and Unreal, but I’d still like to know what would have caused something like that, for future reference. I’ve seen the same thing in games.
My specs are
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro for Workstations 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2695 v3 @ 2.30GHz (28 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
Memory: 32768MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
Chip type: Quadro M2000
Display Memory: 20389 MB
Dedicated Memory: 4044 MB

Well, the only problem I can think of is basic GPU lag; it could be a bit of a bottleneck with your specs. I would try decreasing the tiling on your material, and maybe check the GPU profiler for any value spikes.
