Exciting changes are coming to Fortnite Creative with the introduction of the Chapter 5 Time of Day Manager (TODM)! This update brings enhanced lighting using Lumen and Nanite, giving new islands created in Creative a more realistic look. Plus, the new TODM will now match the UEFN version, bringing parity between Creative and UEFN lighting.
New islands will automatically use the new Chapter 5 TODM along with the Day Sequence device. For existing islands, you’ll need to opt in to switch to the new TODM. Note that opting in is a one-way conversion; once you’ve switched, there’s no reverting to the old TODM, so it’s important to back up your island beforehand. If you’re using Skydome devices, only their volume and location data will be retained during the process and will be converted to Day Sequence devices. To ensure a smooth transition, refer to the Day Sequence device documentation at Day Sequence Device | Unreal Editor for Fortnite Documentation | Epic Developer Community
It’s recommended to opt in early and update your published islands to Chapter 5’s TODM lighting, as an upcoming update will automatically migrate to the new system, making the Skydome device obsolete.
Hey,
I’m happy to see improvements in the lighting system and prefer the look of the Chapter 5 TODMs in most Islands, especially islands with a more realistic look.
However, some islands are built up to match the legacy sky and could look worse with the Ch5 TODM.
I already spent a lot of time adjusting the Chapter 5 TODMs to match the vibe in most of my maps, but for some, it’s not possible to match the proper look, that the players are used to.
I’d love to get more information on when the automatic/forced switch to the Ch5 TODM happens and if there is any possibility of keeping the old (legacy) TODM with a slightly adjusted version.
Since the v33.00 update, distance field lighting doesnt work for us. We are using the environmental light rig for custom lighting. Before the update, distance field lighting worked fine, but now when we check/uncheckmark the setting in a mesh, nothing changes. We think it might be related to the time of day manager and updated lighting perhaps?
