Hi people, I’m using the chaos vehicles plugin and the car works great on a plane or any other static mesh super smooth. But when I add a landscape even close to the car it starts to jitter and shakes I suspect the landscape collision to be the cause of this. That is why I switched the collision to ignore everything but still this issue. Any help would be appreciated.
I experienced a similar issue but with any collision, not just landscapes. I solved my problem by increasing the mass of my Physics Asset bodies. Here is a list of the things I changed:
Added a collision box on my Physics Asset with a mass of 2000kg. The total mass of all bodies on my Physics Asset summed to about 2500kg.
My root bone origin point was at ground level. I re-exported my Skeletal Mesh from Blender with the origin point changed to where I expect the center-of-mass (COM) to be. I don’t know if this had any effect, but it seems like a reasonable change.
Note: In my ChaosVehicleBlueprint I have the vehicle mass overridden as 1500kg. I’m not sure how this interacts with the Physics Asset body masses.
My best guess is the COM was calculated low to the ground and was “bouncing” off the terrain. Adding a Physic Asset body pulled the COM up away from the terrain.
Other’s have pointed out that lightweight vehicles are prone to issues. They suggest using the Undefined wheel axle type when appropriate.
