Chaos Destruction: Projectiles with high velocity causing excessive scattering. How to fix?

High-velocity projectiles are causing the Chaos to scatter with excessive force. I’ve already tried adjusting the Damage Threshold, Projectile Mass, as well as the Break Damage Propagation Factor and Shock Damage Propagation Factor. It improved slightly, in my reference video, all these values are set to default.

so how do you actually break? using field master? usually you would set values there to control torque and other stuff

Seems far more likely that the geometry cache parts are interacting and exploding due to the collision of the object itself or similarly the projectile. Try to change settings to where the parts ignore collisions from one another as well and see if I’m right. If I am, you just have to figure out what is causing it - aside from chaos being total sh*t.

Right now, I’m gradually setting Anchored = Yes on the debris chunks that fly out, and the fracturing looks much better now. For the initial setup, I’ve set the Projectile Velocity to 12,000 and the Mass to 0.5 kg

Setting it to Anchored might just be the trick.

What about using realistic velocities and data? That’s a 9mm it looks like, so 1200fps ish. Mass 100 to 115 grains?

It’s not going to look realistic anyway but you are essentially shooting a cannon with the power of a high powered rifle at the object. It’s kind of no wonder that it explores everywhere… anchored or not…

Try something like 0.006Kg of mass. Look up the m/speed of a 9mm in +p.

My technique is: once you have the desired bullet weight and velocity, try finding a Damage Threshold Index 0 that triggers perfectly with the bullet’s power. Then, set Index 1 and 2 to be slightly lower than Index 0, and gradually try to Set Anchored on the pieces that bounce or recoil too violently.
