Chaos cloth skeletal mesh not simulating in game

Hello,

I converted a static mesh to a skeletal mesh then used cloth paint to simulate cloth physics. It works fine in editor as seen here:

When placing the skeletal mesh in editor and pressing simulate (or play) however, nothing happens, it does not simulate at all. As seen here:

Strange thing is that this only seems to happen on some meshes, I successfully applied cloth physics to a few other static meshes using the exact same process, so I’m not sure what’s wrong / causing this behavior in only some meshes. Not sure if this is a bug or I’m missing something?

UE 5.5.4, allow cloth actors is enabled.
