Chaoos cluster crumble causes flickering

Hi,

I’ve been testing out the Cluster crumbling feature. While it’s an awesome feature it causes a visual bug that stand out quite a bit.

Once the cluster crumbles you can see the parent disappear for a frame before the child pieces reappear. This causes a flickering/popping visual issue.

(I’ve added an example as a video, it might not be noticeable right away but once you see it, it’s hard to unsee it)

I’ve set up my cluster crumbling through the fracture editor. I added a random post break timer so my pieces would crumble randomly after they have been broken.

I noticed when the cluster crumble is called from blueprint that this issue doesn’t appear. I used Crumble active clusters in bp on a break event and these don’t flicker at all.

I explored setting it up this way, but I prefer to use the fracture editor instead. The random timer adds a lot more visual quaiity and being able to set it up from the dataflow editor speeds up our workflow.

Many thanks,

Niels

Steps to Reproduce

  • Create a geometry collection
  • Fracture it into two levels
  • Set removal on the first level with Cluster crumbling turned on. ( I set up psot break timer to 1.0 and 2.5)
  • Add a masterfield to break apart the GC into it’s first level
  • After 1 to 2.5 seconds see clusters start to crumble
  • Once they crumble they disappear for a second before the children pieces appear causing flickering

Thank you again for reaching out and reporting this issue.

I’ve made a JIRA report to be added to the Unreal issue tracker website (https://issues.unrealengine.com).

Epic will decide if the issue will be made publicly accessible, and the whole process can take a few days, so keep that in mind.
