Changing time speed makes physics inconsistent

Hi,
Using “SetGlobalTimeDilation” makes physics inconsistent. To check it out:

  1. Stack a few (more objects makes it worse) physics objects on top of each other in editor
  2. Start game at normal time speed
  3. Set time dilation to 0 for maximum effect while ingame
  4. See what happens :frowning:
Also if you slow down time when object hits ground and set time speed back to normal, it will fly too high after hitting ground.

Hi Nicat,

I’m looking into this and I’ll post back here as soon as I have something.

I did some testing of my own and I do see a slight difference in how high physics object’s will bounce. After discussing this with our content expert, this is just a quirk of PhysX itself. It’s designed to be performant and stable but not necessarily accurate in cases like this.

In my test I only saw what could be considered 2-3 inches of extra bounce, but if you are seeing extreme height, please post a short video/gif or a test project and we can look into it further.

Cheers,

TJ
