Changing Player Model to Different Fortnite Skins

As it says above, is there any good methods of changing the skin of the player using other existing FN characters? I’ve read through some posts and saw that it’s sorta possible when using a custom mesh, but that’s not what I’m aiming for. Thank you to anyone who comments in advance!

Hi Zapp, Welcome to the Forums.

The short answer is ‘No’. Most skins/skeletal meshes are only available for NPC use.

But - We are starting to see some flexibility with the introduction of the Disguise Device. There are about two dozen ‘Combat’ and ‘Casual’ skins to use.

It’s a good question that does bring up an important discussion about skins and the economy/ecosystem. I think it’s safe to say that a huge portion of Fortnites revenue is from the purchase of skins, so I’d imagine there is not a strong incentive to allow for use of any skin in your maps for fear that It would devalue skins and lead to less profit.

My general thoughts on this have been: ‘A complete “metaverse” must allow for deep self-expression’ but today I’m contemplating the best way that a metaverse might be funded…

Hello Astrotronic! Thank you for the response! I can understand where you think Epic stands on it. It’s unfortunate though as I know over the years that the story development for Fortnite characters has been on the shorter end of the stick in the last couple of years. It’s unrealistic that they give each character such important stories, but I think it’d be of great benefit for the game if the people could create narratives with their existing characters and hence, allow people to play as them.

I do hope they implement more flexibility with the usage of the Disguise device to use their greater library of characters sooner than later. The maps that I’ve been working on originally had planned using existing characters with FN, but I’ve had to shift to referencing them in the world I’m creating rather than them being playable.

Hopefully this reality will be sooner than later!
