Change "Asset needs to be checked out" to "54 assets need to be checked out"

Hey,

Since i use Source Control, a lot, specifically perforce i’ve come to severe annoyance of the endless “files need to be checked out” when using source control. This blocks me from working properly and most likely quite a lot of others.
You can click “check out modified files” which will ‘kinda’ fix it, but the way it tells you it needs to be checked out is pointless. You don’t know what needs checked out unless going to the output log and even then you can’t click all the “check out” buttons because it just goes too fast.

So the request is to change this to, if there’s 54 assets to be checked out, “54 assets need to be checked out” rather than “Asset needs to be checked out” 54 times. Or at least give a checkbox to be able to set it to this.

Hi ,

Thank you for your request. I have entered a feature request, UE-31873, to be considered by the development staff.

Thanks for the consideration.

As a followup, i see this may cause issues in larger companies where one doesn’t want to check out all files but only specific ones. For this a solution would be a viewport where you can tick and untick the files that needs to be checked out and then mass-checkout, which will in anyway be more helpful.

Hi,

If it is easier and less error-prone in development, you could also add a “allow auto-checkout” checkbox in the version control settings, which makes a lot of sense for smaller teams that don’t need that confirmation at all. How about it?

Whichever way you prefer, I agree with OP, please simplify this in some way!!

I’mma just save this material and…

FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT
FILES NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT

The funny part of it is, normally you don’t actually need to check out whatever file it’s notifying you about.

(NUM) Asset(s) might need checkout!

With a list that then tells you the assets that might need checked out.
