Castlevania cemetery diorama 2024

For my video game art class we had to make a diorama of a topic of our choice. In my case I decided to make a scene based on the game Castlevania, in particular I wanted to base it on the cemeteries that can be seen in the games

I really like the gothic aesthetic, I’m still not very clear on how to position all the elements and the size of the diorama but I do know that I want to emphasize the cathedral that will be in the center and a angelic statues

Hi there @D4ivt3,

Welcome to the Unreal Engine forums! Love this project idea. There’s something so cool about in-game cemeteries that are done to be kind of beautiful. I look forward to seeing the final product!

This week I started putting the different elements in the diorama and addition the choosing key scenes that I would like to show.
I also started making some elements, I started looking for more references, and

I started with the hero prop and the angelic statue that I want to add

For my deorama I wanted to add a statue of an angel and found Benjamin Victor’s bronze maquette ‘The Angel.’ I liked it so much that I recreated it in zbrsuh so I could add it to my scene

Hello there @D4ivt3 !

This is a truly interesting concept idea. Castlevania is very iconic for its gothic style not just within its buildings but throughout the entirety of the franchise! A lot of games and media still pull from it to this day along with Vampire Hunter D. I love the rendition of the angel as it seems like you’re adding your own style to fit in with the scenery which I find intriguing.

Is there any game from Castlevania or content in general you were pulling from the most?

Hey The_M0ss_Man

It’s good to know that you like the style. I was really basing myself on the entire franchise, but the one I have focused on the most is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the one I like the most.

And the truth is, I had forgotten Vampire Hunter D existed, thanks for reminding me, I have to look for references to add to the diorama. You can’t make a tribute to Castlevania without having Vampire Hunter D.

This time I have added some elements to my diorama, the hero prop and the statue still need to be work on, but I wanted to get an idea of where the elements would go and how the whole diorama would work

Hi there @D4ivt3 !

Having Castlevania and Vampire Hunter D together is my peak vampire dream! I love both franchises with my whole heart as the aesthetics and story pull me in so easily.

The additions to the diorama are looking really good. I love the shapes for the graves. I think you’re doing really well with your representation. I personally adore the fence in the back as well. It’ll be an iron wrought style I presume?

Yes, that’s the plan, I have to see how they turn out. I have to fix a problem I have with the rock textures, I’m using some bridge ones but they don’t convince me very much.

In addition to that, I already created the base that I will use for my diorama, I am experimenting with fog to give more atmosphere to the scene

I finally started the texturing of the angel, I am really happy with the final result, there are still some details with the water discoloration that does not convince me at all but it is a good start, I tried to guide myself by a reference that I found that resembled my vision of the statue

first attempt at lighting, I still don’t quite understand how to use directional lights to get the most out of my props but I think it’s a good first attempt

Finally I can post more than one image at a time and I wanted to show you all the angles of my diorana, I already added textures to many of the props and started to illuminate a little more using ambient light and point lights

Hi there @D4ivt3 !

I love how it all is slowly coming together. I’m sorry to hear about the rock texturing not being something you’re happy with. I often times find it difficult with rock textures as there’s so many out there that the right one can be hard to come by for what you’re envisioning.

I also enjoy your texturing on the angel as it looks like a familiar feel if that makes sense. In a way I suppose I can see the texture and vision how it feels from touching statues like that in the past, haha. I’m truly excited to see more of your work and again I truly love seeing the makings of a diorama inspired by franchises I adore. Keep up the AMAZING work!

hey @The_M0ss_Man

Yes, I really liked the textures and how it turned out, I realized this week that the textures were not being applied correctly, I managed to solve the problem and now they look like they do painter

This week I couldn’t advance as much as I wanted to but even so I added more vegetation to the dirama, plus a new statue, I just need to finish texturing the third one and add it.

I also improved the lighting and now I’m concentrating on texturing the hero prop and the base, which are two elements that until now I’ve been ignoring.

This week I managed to advance much further, I finally added texture to the base and added foliage to the diorama, added a new statue and played a little with particles to make fog, I don’t know how to make them appear sooner but I will solve it this week.

I created a second statue in my diorama this time based on MONUMENTS TO DEATH HAUNT THE CITY OF PARIS.
I thought it was a good contrast to the other statues I have in the scene and I really liked the statue and wanted to add it.
