CARGO | Unreal Engine 5 Sci-Fi Short Film (4K Trailer)

CARGO – Cinematic Short Film Made in Unreal Engine 5.5 :rocket:

Hey everyone!

I’m excited to share the trailer for my independent short film, CARGO — a project that’s been in development for over two years. It was fully created in Unreal Engine 5.5, rendered in Path Tracer , and features custom Metahumans and Houdini-simulated clothing.

This project was born from a desire to explore the intersection of storytelling, real-time technology, and cinematic art. Every frame was crafted to push what a small team can achieve using real-time rendering tools.

We handled all the environments, lighting, and animation in Unreal, while Houdini took care of all cloth simulations and dynamics. The result is a fusion of art and tech that we’re really proud of.

Huge thanks to the Unreal and Houdini communities for all the inspiration and knowledge shared over the years — this project wouldn’t have been possible without it.

Hi @Andregustavo This trailer looks amazing! The visuals and animation feel so real, and you can tell a ton of care went into every frame. It is really impressive what your team pulled off using Unreal Engine. I can not wait to see the full film.

Hello @Andregustavo !

This is an absolutely charming trailer with a lot of intrigue! If I may ask, do the tentacles change color during the film, or is that a trick of lighting? If so, how did you create that effect? I thought it was mimicking the blend-in technique of a real-life octopus and was curious.
