capturing requirements

Dear everyone,

I have to set up a workstation to use Capturingreality.

But I can not find any benchmarks or recommendations for 9 - 200k images (photogrammetrie).

Can you help me?

Best

Hi StefanHD42,
there you can find minimal requirements for using RealityCapture: https://www.capturingreality.com/assets/Documents/datasheet_TARASQUE_1.2.pdf
Also, there you can find some HW recommendations: https://www.pugetsystems.com/solutions/photogrammetry-workstations/realitycapture/hardware-recommendations/

Thank you @OndrejTrhan!

I do know about the minimal requirements, but it seems to be outdated and also a benchmark with only 758 images (Park Map) is not quite near to my 200k images.

I have 15-20k (€) to invest and need to figure out the best equipment I can buy for that money.

I do have questions like:

  • 0.5 or 1 TB Ram? Would I benefit a lot from DDR5?
  • Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX or AMD EPYC 9654? Or just go for Ryzen?
  • 1-2 RTX 4090 or something else? And it seems to be impossible to connect two models of the 4000series via SLI/NVLink, so would I even benefit from the second Card?

Just have read:

Those working with smaller datasets of up to 200 photos can expect processing time to be around 20% faster. For anyone working with larger datasets of around 10,000 photos—particularly on powerful professional machines—it’s possible to achieve results that are up to 80% faster.

RealityCapture can now more efficiently harness the power of multicore CPUs in the reconstruction process—expect the best results on CPUs with more than 64 threads.

So it seems something like AMD Ryzen 9 7950X seems to be of the menu again.
