Can't run any game that uses UE4

I’ve tried opening multiple games that run on UE and none on them will even open. I get an error saying “Assertion failed: [File:Unknown] [Line: 198] Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x887A0020 - ‘INTERNAL_ERROR’)”. I’ve made sure my drivers are up to date. I’ve tried verifying UE, reinstalling UE. Nothing seems to be fixing the issue

  • Make sure you are using the latest graphics drivers for your graphics card. It’s a cliché but could really help.
  • Some indicate that it could be related to virusscanner. Try disabling it.
  • I also ready a post where a user solved it by disabling its onboard gpu in the device manager (since you probably don’t need it anyway).
  • If you’re using Steam, you could also verify your files: https://appuals.com/how-to-verify-integrity-of-steam-game-files-and-library/

Do you need more help?

Thank you disabling the onboard gpu fixed it!

I fixed it. Thank you though!

Hey, disabling the onboard gpu worked for me too, but only technically. i have an AMD graphics card, and disabling my Intel card completely botched up the resolution of my laptop. Not only that, the game actually worked (didn’t crash) but the screen was blank the whole time. So it didn’t exactly work out.
