Hello! For some reason I an unable to paint the grass material on the stone one. They work fine separately and I can paint stone on grass. What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Can you try setting your tool strength to 1, then right click the grass layer and do Fill Layer.
Then see if you can paint stone on it and then grass over the stone.

It was not really a solution I think I was just doing it wrong. What I do now is I paint the material I want and then select material under it and erase it in the spots where the new material is applied. It look fine so I guess it solves it for me. Probably the problem is still there but I found the way that kinda wors for me
