Can't make ambisonics (soundfield) work in UE5.3

I’ve been trying to implement 1st order ambisonics to my VR project but no matter what plugin I use I get weird artifacts.
Resonance does the spatialization part as intended however I get weird noisy artifacts on top of my audio source.
Oculus Audio doesn’t do binaural spatialization at all.
Steam Audio is not capable to play ambisonics as far as I know.
Built in method doesn’t do any binaural decoding??
Bink audio compression produces even worse artifacts, so I tried to use PCM.
Any ideas?

Recently this has happened in our project too. We are on 5.3.2 and all of a sudden all our ambix files started to have this kind of static / stuttering noise. They sounded ok before.
Re-import or importing complete new ambix files does not help. It appears both when playing the files directly in the editor (from the content browser) or in game.

In our case it seems to be project related though, creating a new project from the Third person template for example and importing the same ambix files works just fine.
Any idéa of what could cause this?
