After a blackout while running UE4 (possible cause) nothing seemed to work with 4.10.2 or 3 can’t remember, I tried reinstalling the whole thing - it gave me 4.10.4, but like before crashes at 45%.
Access violation - code c0000005 (first/second chance not available)
I’ve sent the error code (to where i have no idea). please help.
To answer your last question, most users are on Windows 7, so I don’t think it is specifically a Windows 7 issue. However, we will need more information to isolate the issue, so…
In addition to your description of when the crash occurs and the logs you have already supplied, please follow these instructions and provide as many of the following as possible:
Your dxdiag (Windows Start Button>(search “dxdiag”)>Launch dxdiag>select “Save all information”>attach text file to your post.)
If the Crash Reporter window is present when the crash occurs, select “Copy Callstack to the Clipboard,” and paste that information in a document and add to this post. Be sure to hit “Submit” on the Crash Reporter pop-up to send the Crash Report to Epic.
3/4 These files and the …//log folder do not exist on my PC, I assume because I’ve never successfully launched UE4 (on this fresh install), so it hasn’t created them?
Additionally regarding Windows 7, I’ve had issues in the past with microsoft c++ redistributable with installing and losing functionality with software, Its a genuine copy that I’ve had to reinstall 2 times. Suffice to say this latest install works well after I froze updates at the point the problem occurs (all except UE4 that is). In my unqualified opinion, I believe its a case of either a bad OCZ REVOx2 SSD and/or its drivers, as sometimes windows loses the pathway to “it” and I have to hook up my thumb drive with my revo drivers to help windows find itself. And in its confusion corrupts core components of windows (perhaps).
I’m going to review this with some of our hardware people but in the meantime, give this a try and let me know if it works:
With the editor closed, make a copy of the project folder of the project you were working on when the blackout occurred and move it somewhere safe. Then, in the original project folder remaining in the Unreal Projects directory, delete the “saved,”" intermediate" and “config” folders and restart the Launcher/Editor.
Don’t forget that its a fresh install and I can’t create a new project.
Going to test ue4 on another hardrive and fresh install of windows soon, OFC this will take a full day and is my last resort. On top of that, migrating ten thousand dollars of software over, that I need for UE4 will certainly cost me development time…
I realize you cannot create a new project, however at the very start of describing this issue, you said that “After a blackout while running UE4 (possible cause) nothing seemed to work…” Therefore I assumed you were running the editor with a project opened. If this is not the case, disregard steps regarding the project folder.
Looking up other user’s having an issue with Windows Ultimate installed, I saw they needed to have Service Pack 1 installed in order UE4 to work. While viewing your dxdiag, I saw that you do have Service Pack 1 installed, however, I’m curious if some registry became corrupted during the black-out. You may want to run some trusted pc repair software.
Finally, as a last-ditch effort before having to move all your software to another drive, you can try (with the editor closed) deleting the following directories in your program directory:
Restarting the directory will cause these to be rebuilt. Also, if the launcher opens, you can try downloading and installing UE 4.9 and/or UE 4.11 preview, just to see if this is a conflict with UE4.10 and Windows Ultimate specifically.
Since we have not heard back from you in a while, we are closing this post as “resolved” for tracking purposes. However, while I realize you are considering transferring to a new Hard Drive as a last resort, if you are still troubleshooting with the set up described here, please respond and let me know if you tried any of the last suggested troubleshooting steps and we will continue to investigate the source of the issue.
I tired everything bar installing 4.9/ 4.11 as I had reinstalled ue4 5 times and my ISP only gives me 100gb a month. However the re-occurring issue with mostly UE4 and windows update along with a few win redistributable error codes lead me to the conclusion that My SSD had poor data protection and continually corrupted core windows components.
I’m now working on a new Hard drive with UE4 working 4.10. I’ll change my OCZ REVO 2 SSD to a dumb storage )
