Can't get a Cable Actor or Cable Component to trigger overlap or hit events with the pawn/character?

I can’t seem to get Cable Components to generate overlap or hit events. I don’t know why/if this is supposed to work. I’ve searched online for others experiencing the same issue, but not seeing any information. Why do Cable components have these options and as far as I can tell, do not work with the character?

Create a new third person project, create a blueprint using cable component - enable collision, add on overlap or hit event - nothing triggers.

someone replied on reddit to me - “It’s never going to work because cables are actually chains of particles and particles can’t have cpu based collision in unreal 4.”

It seems a bit confusing for people that wouldn’t know this that these options exist on the cable component (on overlap, hit events).
