Cannot Login to Linux Preview Launcher

When I open the Linux launcher, I cannot login, as the browser window never opens.

I am on Bazzite, using Firefox as my browser.

irefox itself is installed and working. The problem appears to be a SteamOS browser-handler issue affecting AppImages, and another Steam Deck user has reported the same Epic Launcher Preview login bug.

Try this fix

  1. Close Epic Games Launcher completely.
  2. Open Konsole.
  3. Copy and paste this single command:
XDG_DATA_DIRS="$HOME/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share:/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share:/usr/local/share:/usr/share" "$HOME/Downloads/EpicGamesLauncher-x86_64.AppImage"

This starts Epic with the Flatpak application directories placed ahead of SteamOS’s system application entries, which may prevent the Firefox entry from opening Discover instead.

4. Click Log in in Epic and check whether Firefox opens.

This is a workaround to test, not a guaranteed fix. It doesn’t modify SteamOS system files or require sudo, pacman, or paru.

Tell me what happens after step 4: does Firefox open with Epic’s login page, or does Discover still appear?

Same thing on Nobara with Chrome as browser after installing via Terminal… But it suddenly worked after running AppImage file with Gear Lever app.
