Hello anyone that has decided to read this. I’m sorry if I’m posting this in an inappropriate area, I contacted customer support and was directed to posting in this forum to hopefully receive some help.
Essentially, what the title says is my issue - A vast majority of Unreal 4 games don’t launch on my PC, they open, linger on black screen for a second or two and then crash, with no Unreal crash log to show. Sometimes, I can navigate menus fine, but the moment the game attempts to load any gameplay, it crashes. I will list some games, just to give you an idea:
-Deep Rock Galactic
-Supraland
-Ghostwire: Tokyo
-Aliens: Fireteam Elite
-Weird West
-Outriders
-Grounded
-Astroneer
This is honestly just a small handful of the top of my head. I’ve had this issue for about 3 years now. Think of a game that runs on Unreal 4 and more likely than not I’ve tried and failed to play it. It’s been maddening, the idea that an entire engine - one of the most popular engines in gaming - simply does not work on my PC.
I have spent hours upon hours, lost entire days troubleshooting this. I have done more than I’d be able to recount, but I’ll list some major steps below:
-Fresh Install Windows 10 mulitple times
-Upgrade to Windows 11 - Fresh install
-Purchased new RAM
-Switched GPU (NVIDIA to AMD) along with a fresh W11 install
-Switched storage (HDD to SSD)
-Underclocked and Overclocked GPU
-Consult Microsoft support, follow all their advice (There wasn’t much)
-Consult individual UE4 game support (Square Enix support really tried but couldn’t help)
-RAM Stress tests
-Running UE4 games in any and all compatibility modes
-Upgrade GPU drivers, rollback GPU drivers
-Update all drivers
-Changing monitor, switching monitor cables
-Launching UE4 games on a fresh W10 install with newly cleaned drives (Launching a UE4 game on a PC with essentially nothing else on it)
The only thing I haven’t really tried that I can think of is switching out my MOBO, CPU or PSU. Outside of being unable to run UE4 games, my PC has no notable issues, no Bluescreens, crashes, nothing to mention of concern. I frequently play games like Destiny 2 on 100+ fps with max settings, no other engine or games on another engine give me issues like UE4. Of note, I have been able to play one or two UE4 games without problem, those being Remnant: From the Ashes and another I’m unfortunately forgetting. Also, I can launch and play Fortnite for about 15-20 minutes before it crashes.
Apologies if this post is meandering or doesn’t contain all the information needed for anyone to offer assistance. I haven’t actually tried to troubleshoot this issue for a few months, I’ve more or less resigned myself to this fate, defeated. I’d appreciate any help offered whatsoever. I’ll also list my PC Specs below. Thanks.
