I applied to Epic picks today with my latest creation which uses the new physics simulation, scenegraph and some collision detection system to name a few things.
I felt really good about this game being accepted as Epic stated there looking for (Previously - Scenegraph) and currently Physics islands.
I received the default acknowledgement email and then within a few hours (Didn’t even get the green playtest email) I received the rejection email again stating
”**In this case, the main reason for not moving forward with your submission was: Other maps were selected instead.”
I have had this on 2 separate Epic picks requests albeit the first one at least got play tested i assume.
What does this mean like its good enough but we chose this other game instead ?
I always see some FFA or Prop Hunt ect in Epic picks yet the 2 games i created and requested are different. 1 is unique and doesn’t have another on Fortnite yet was rejected for the same reason as above. The 2nd (Todays rejection) Has some same style but mine is with all the new physics/scenegraph and collision detection ect
I just don’t know why i keep getting rejected for the same reason constantly and ill be honest i feel like never trying to apply again. I’ve seen big creators in Epic picks back to back for 2 weeks and the same old genres ect but when people create new concepts this isnt good enough ?
I don’t mind being rejected i don’t have a problem with this at all my issue is this in your face rejection stating “ Other maps were selected instead” So more Prop Hunts or FFA modes were selected. How is the next thing gunna be created on this platform when all Epic does is accept/show old genres on repeat constantly.
Anyways just wanted to voice my frustration at this system as i do believe something is wrong with Epic picks for sure.

Yeah I’ve gotten that rejection a lot, tbh they probably are choosing maps with AI so it’s mostly random, or just allowing maps in there that pay for it. It’s been stated that companies/brands can pay for epic’s picks, normal people can’t - awesome. It sucks the most tho because it takes a lot of work just to make the materials required to apply
It wouldn’t surprise me about the pay to be featured. I’ve played some maps on Epic picks and to be honest they shouldn’t be on the promotion tab. There is nothing new ect about them just another prop hunt for example.
Epic picks is apparently all about creativity and new stuff not the same stuff polished up more.
I think when GTA 6 releases loads of us will leave this platform and let all the scummy bad actors have it. Being an honest creator you get absolutely nowhere in this ecosystem. Epics response time for everything is the main issue i think either bugs, bad actors and discovery, bad actors in general like nothing is ever a quick process and this will be the downfall of the system. Well it’ll have all the scummy creators left to leach what they can.
While we do not have facts and its all mere assumption based it is just that. Having said that people are entitled to express opinion and belief and its the other person who needs to either accept that or not. This doesn’t mean that the person is right/wrong just that’s its their opinion.
I didn’t say that you presented it as a fact. You expressed your opinion and I expressed mine about it. It was a statement made by @swaggod that presented the idea like it is something more than just an opinion.
Yeah, “featured” for sure (re: paid promo). with the top bar and such. but I don’t know about Pay for Picks. I don’t think that’s a thing.
And Picks isn’t an AI thing, they talked about how they can have as much as a 6 month backlog in curating Picks in an interview (on YT), and that they need to get better about that, and want to get it down to less than 30d.
Agree that the rejection letter is super vague.
Did you provide all the supplemental materials? Videos etc? They said that goes a long way toward them reviewing things, because they’ll look at that first before actually loading the level, to see if it’s worth their time, because they get so many submissions.

re: solutions, it would also be nice for the Picks Winners if there were tags for “innovative” “physics” “verse” “story” “persistence” or something… any notes whatsoever on why they are featured.
I filled everything out and did tons of videos ect. The only other thing it potentially could be as i do see this rejection a lot tbh is that if they have maps set for x months and you select a date before it might auto reject ? idk tho as ive seen a map get published the week before and was in epic picks the next week so explain that one.
I’d seen it on the forums before but don’t remember where, it makes sense because if there is a 6 month backlog, maps from less than 6 months ago shouldn’t be there. However brand maps and collabs that can pay happen to be accepted into epics picks within days of publishing
That doesn’t mean that these maps are picked because someone paid Epic to do so. If you are thinking about what makes sense, the answer to that could be also that maps from big creators or studios and maps created with big brands are in general just more important for Epic’s business than maps from individual small creators. So according to this logic it just makes sense for Epic to prefer maps like that.
So if we want to increase our chances to be accepted for Epic’s Picks, the way to do so is not just to create a great map, but also to work on our personal brand to have a “bigger weight” in the eyes of someone who will make a decision about the submission of a map. And no, there are no steps that would guarantee success if you do them all, because when 2 different people do the same steps, the end result could be very different.
