Hello. i have some concerns about how this looks from the legal side.
For example, I bought some cool assets from Marketplace Free of the months - they are amazing, but most of them are high poly, very realistic.
I’m aiming for more stylized graphics, and I’m wondering if I can transfer these high-poly assets to, say, Blender and make some significant changes to them - make them lowpoly, change textures, colors, etc. and then transfer them back to my project in UnrealEngine. Is this allowed?
What I mean is that I own the assets (it doesn’t matter if the ones “bought” for $0 as free assets or bought for real money) = I have them to use freely in my commercial projects. Does this also mean that I can change them at will? I wouldn’t want to spend a lot of time reworking them to fit the style of my environment, only to be told that it’s not allowed, and even more - to have legal and financial problems at the end. OFC no one would want that.
What is your experience in this area? When I acquire assets in the Marketplace, can I use them ONLY in their original version, or do I also have the right to use them as “building blocks” for processing, creating my own variations of these assets?
Of course, I mean only changes for my own use, for use in my project, game, and not some combination with changing and reselling these assets.
I want to make it clear - I mean their change, transformation for use in my own project, game in UnrealEngine.
Hey @LZGDev!
Everything in the Marketplace is licensed under the Epic Content License Agreement. Unfortunately, you will have a difficult time finding valid legal advice through the forums as every situation is nuanced. I won’t be giving any legal advice myself, but I highly suggest looking over the content license agreement with your own legal representation if you have any questions regarding it:

Good luck if finding the answers you need!
Hi, Yes you can modify these assets. You can’t do asset flips.
They are more like “building blocks” as you mentioned. You can use them partially, rework according to your needs, etc. Otherwise they would be very useless.

Thank you very much for pointing this out, to 4.2.1a directly.
So as I thought- I can use them as a building elements, including modifying them ONLY FOR MY in PROJECT purposes.
AS I mentionet-I am aware that “asset flipping” would be wrong, illegal, etc. It’s obvious.
I’m glad I can modify them, adjust to use in my own commercial project= game for example.
As I said-this is my strict purpose- at least I want to try reuse some of these high poly asset and “poly them down” - not only for optimization but also to more unify style of these assets. Because as probably everybody understand- YES,there is a lot masterworks here, but because of their high realism and uniqueness many of them cannot be use altogheter in one project because they won’t match, won’t look good set next to each other.
I hope,I think that after some work on them (I hope I will be able to make so;0 ) I may be able to use more of them in single project.Otherwise I would have to choose only few from them.
Thanx for reply
