I`m replacing some assets (texures, materials, skeletal ans static meshes) and It get really messy everytime.
-I try to change the assets name and UE4 creates another copy -Import a different version, delete the original using the replace feature, UE4 creates another copy -Move a folder or asset from one place to another, it creates copies -Or just need to delete an asset because I dont need it anymore or any of the undesired copies, it doesn`t
Why the replace doesnt work? And all this happens with new assets too, so theres no bounds or relations build in blueprints or stuff like that to bind the asset to an original name/place. My project became a huge mess and I can`t clean properly.
You can try to rightclick on a folder in your content browser and select “Fix Up Redirectors In Folder”.
It will try to clean up old references from moved or renamed assets. Afterwards you should be able to delete unwanted assets in that folder. It helps me. (not always but often
I didn`t find this option in my version, BUT I did find the “Reference Viewer” and I can see some relations restraining from deleting something. In case of static meshes, if I clear off the material from the mesh, I got able to delete it. In case of skeletal meshes was a bit more difficult, but I used “Show in Explorer” to delete from the folder. If it keep no working, closing, deleting and reopening worked fine.
It is here. I believe it is in every version. Deleting files in explorer works but it will probably cause just more broken references. Do it only when you are sure about what you are deleting.
