Can someone help me with Metahuman animation issue?

The issue is the arm. I just created a assemble a new metahuman character and put a walking loop animation asset to the BP’s body part for testing. No matter what animation I put, there’s always a piece of bone stay on air without animation.

Did you retarget the animation to the body? Im not sure what you mean by “put”.

Yes I targeted the walk forward animation asset from engine. I also tried retargeting animaition from Mixamo. Same thing happened.

Hi @TerryLee could you please provide the following information to get a better idea of the step you took and how you’ve set up your project:

  • Would it be possible for you to briefly explain the process you took to retarget the animation?
  • Did you edit the metahuman rig before or after retargeting the animation?
  • What version of UE5 are you using?
  • Have you updated your project from a previous UE 5 version

Mixamo does not have a root bone so that causes all kinds of issues. Also from the folded arms it looks like an incompatable skeleton to me. I retarget the source animation to Manny(UE5 version) first then retarget from Manny to Metahuman. The skeletons are 100% compatable so there are no issues(usually, ha ha). If you could provide more info it would be helpful

Here is a friendly version of “script 2” with a tip and a useful link:

I had a similar problem while working with MetaHuman. In my case, one of the arm bones would stay in the air and not react to the animation at all, no matter what clip I used. It’s worth checking if the skeleton is assigned correctly, and also if there is a problem when retargeting the animation. Sometimes it helps to reset the IK Rig and IK Retargeter, or check if all the arm bones are included in the chains.

Also pay attention to the Physics Asset and Body Part BP settings, as sometimes individual bones can be excluded from the animation or controlled by physics. I also found it helpful to create a new character and reapply the animations to check if the problem is related to a specific BP.

If you find a solution, be sure to share it. I’m sure it can be useful for other users. Useful discussion and additional tips can be found here: https://chatgpt.com/c/6a2b3d9c-fc28-83eb-b947-d4516105c6a5
