Can not run my FIRST Android App

So I followed the guide for Android Delpoyment on Mac a& Unreal 4, but all day I’ve been trying to get it to deploy on my Nexus 7 with ZERO luck, it’s driving me crazy.
I’m on Mac OS 10.12.3, UE4.15.1 CodeWorks 1R5 Nexus 7 Android 6.0.1 with no luck following the documentation (https://docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Platforms/Android/GettingStarted/1/index.html).
Can anyone help, I’ve uninstalled, Reinstalled, change setting, anything I can think of.

Maybe you missed the line saying “The first thing we need to do to start developing for Android is to install CodeWorks for Android 1R4”. Try to reinstall CodeWorks 1R4 instead of 1R5 and retry building you app.

1R5 is what is included with the engine, I didn’t download 1R5 from a site it came included with the engine under the Extras folder for android… I’ll give it a try though.

The setup might have the 1R5, but at 00:20 sec in your video, you can select 1R4 in the Top Left corner.

I installed the 1R4 with which seems to be the same issue.
If I want to completely uninstall Codeworks, is that just using the “uninstall” in the Codeworks program & removing the .NVIDIA & NVIDIA folders? I really couldn’t find anything that explaining how to do a complete uninstall.

I’m losing my mind, because I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java & Codeworks 1R4 at least a half-a-dozen times today… theres gotta be something I’m missing here, but I can’t seem to find it.
I just removed the engine and am reinstalling it, lets see if that does anything.

Probably a bad advice, but did you also try CodeWorks 1R6?

1R6 was the first think I tried… I thought I needed to download the latest version.
1R5 is what’s included. That also didn’t work, using 1R5 I installed 1R4u2… that’s my current hold area… I’m ready to do a clean install of the OS just to see if that does it.

  1. Install UE 4.12.5
  2. Uninstalled Java(https://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml)
  3. Reboot
  4. Uninstalled NVIDIA CodeWorks & removed NVIDIA folder & .NVIDIA folder
  5. Reboot
  6. Installed JRE 6 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572)
  7. Installed JRE 7u79 (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html)
  8. Installed JRE 8u121 or latest version (https://java.com/en/download/)
  9. Reboot
  10. Run UE 4.12.5 (At this point I was able to get past my earlier errors)
  11. Run UE 4.15 (I’m able to compile and deploy to my Nexus 7 only to the Splash Screen)
  12. Run UE 4.15.1 (Original Error occurs)
  13. Run 4.14.3 (Lot’s of warning but did Deploy to the Splash Screen)
  14. Uninstalled Java
  15. Re-Installed JRE 6 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572)
  16. Re-Installed JRE 7u79 (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html)
  17. Run 4.14.3 (Seems to be work)

So was it 4.15 all this time? Is 15 not inline with CodeWorks and Java?
Either way I guess I’ll keep working in 4.14.3 for the time being, till someone can tell me what’s up.

I apologize, the mac setup instructions in our docs are out of date. I’m working with our docs team to update them, but in the meantime here are the basic steps:
1: uninstall any old versions of Java and codeworks/androidworks.
2. grab the latest version of java from here: https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
3. Make sure your JAVA_HOME is set. lots of good web tutorials on how to set this on Mac, heres one I grabbed off google. How to set JAVA_HOME on Mac OS X - Saje Consultants
4. Install Codeworks. default path in the version of the engine from the launcher is y [EngineInstallLocation]/Unreal Engine[EngineVersion]/Engine/Extras/Android
Once you’ve done that, and restarted your computer, it should be setup to build for Android.

Do I still need to install java 6 then 7, followed by the latest? Also what version of Codeworks should be used, 1R4u2, 1R5 or 1R6

I did do the JAVA_HOME tutorial after the fact, I’m not sure it did anything though. (How to set JAVA_HOME on Mac OS X - Saje Consultants)
-It did not have a file for emac .profile that it talked about, I did create one though.

@seldonfound, I’m having the same problem as @natemac00.

In my case, this is with an existing project that has worked correctly on Android with 4.13 and (sometimes) 4.14.

With the previous versions I found that if Java 6 wasn’t installed along Java 8, then nothing would work. After upgrading to 4.15, Android is broken again. I upgraded to CodeWorksforAndroid-1R5 included in the binary release of 4.15.1.

UE4 seems generally incapable of producing working builds on any mobile platform in the last 6 months, in my experience. :frowning:

Had exact the same problem can’t deploy and thing on android! I did your steps and now everything working fine with 4.14.3

You need jdk 1.8 installed, then edit your .bash_profile and make sure the last “export JAVA_HOME=” points to it; add the line if you don’t have it. 4.16 will let you enter it in Android SDK project settings, too, when it is released.
