I managed to build UE 4.25.1 on my PC.
The hardware is:
- Memory: 16 GiB
- Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz × 4
- Graphics: Intel® Haswell Desktop
- OS type: 64-bit
- Disk: 1 TB
- OS: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
I can create a project and run the Unreal Engine Editor. However, in the editor I can just see a blue screen:
Is this behavior expected due to the PC hardware?
Yes, because it is, obviously, working. The questions should be how well?
You did not mention a dedicated video card, so we should assume you’re running this on an the chip integrated directly into the processor - HD 4600 in this case, I believe. While UE4 can potentially run on it, it is not officially supported afaik, and the experience will make you quit game making rather quickly.
I’d attribute the blue screen to the driver issue or UE4 simply refusing to work with the HD 4600.
You do need a dedicated video card, no need to break the bank, though. One can get a used GPU for around $50 and it should be OK for simple work. Your system would benefit greatly from an SSD, not a must but it makes things responsive and snappy.
All I know about Ubuntu + UE4 combo is from the occasional issues people post. Not many but some do exist.
